Information Technology Division
The Information Technology Division (ITD) supports delivering the mission, strategic goals, strategic actions, and project initiatives necessary for the Tax and Rev and Motor Vehicle units of the Department. ITD supports all technology and systems collecting revenues and distributing billions in state, local and tribal revenue annually; and supports Motor Vehicle Systems & services with thousands of drivers served each week and millions in annual revenues. Technology at our department is at the very core of everything we do. From operational excellence to strategic initiatives, to enabling over staff to deliver, to supporting all field offices, municipal offices and partners, ITD gets IT done. The Information Technology Division (ITD) provides technology services, resources and tools that assist TRD in meeting its operational goals, objectives and performance measures.
The technology team at TRD is accountable to the people we serve, providing professional customer service in an innovative, positive and courteous manner. ITD continues to demonstrate excellent performance levels as indicated by high ratings in the annual corporate surveys.

Mike Baca
Chief Information Officer (CIO)
With over 30 years of experience in information technology, he is known as a fixer, doer, and leader. Previously, Mike was the founding Director of the New Mexico Enterprise Project Management Office (NMEPMO). While building NMEPMO, Mike worked directly with CIO’s focusing on legislative policy, technology budgeting, and ensuring successful project implementation. Mike says, “the technology part is easy – the real secret of success is people.”
Our Information Technology Divisions (ITD) motto is “We get IT done.” ITD is composed of incredible professionals collaborating on application development, data analysis, infrastructure, user support, project management, and security. ITD continues to receive awards and accolades for dependable operations, project success, and technology innovations. Mike credits these achievements to team culture, dedicated performance, and innovation. Outside of work, Mike’s mission statement is “Art, Adventure, and Philanthropy!”

Darshana Kanabar
Deputy Chief Information Officer
Darshana joined Tax & Rev in 2016 with over 25 years of Information Technology experience in private and public sectors. As the Deputy CIO, Darshana shares the core values and mission of the ITD to enhance delivery of services to our customers through technology, collaboration and innovation. She supports initiatives and operations through strategic planning, streamlined processes, collaboration, and communication. She balances strategic demands with day-to-day operations.
Darshana holds a Masters’ degree with certifications in Project Management and Six Sigma Black Belt. She is a recipient of the International GMIS Outstanding Professional award and has served on project oversight boards and committees. Outside of work, she enjoys nature, hiking and music.

- Office of the CIO – Security Services, Compliance with SSA, IRS, PCI and others, IPRA requests, Legal support, support investigations, and multi-agency collaborations on initiatives and legislation
With the changing landscape of our customers, evolving security threats, new legislation annually, and rapid advancement of technology, we need to continue to innovate, grow, and rethink our approach to systems and technology. We must continue to invest in our systems to maintain them strategically. We get IT done!
