Tax Practitioner Liaison
Tax Practitioner Liaison
The Tax Practitioner Liaison serves as a channel of communication between New Mexico Taxation & Revenue Department and accountants, certified public accountants (CPAs), bookkeepers, office managers, tax preparers, and others performing tax-related transactions for customers.
The liaison is a resource for practitioners who have tried to operate through normal Departmental channels without success. The Tax Practitioner Liaison will provide guidance and assist in resolving conflicts and addressing issues.
What the Tax Practitioner Liaison can do:
- Assist practitioners who have tried to operate within the normal Departmental channels without success;
- Facilitate communication between practitioners and the department;
- Ensure practitioners’ rights under the Taxpayer Bill of Rights are being upheld;
- Focus is to support practitioners to resolve systemic issues as well as individual taxpayer issues; and
- Aid with outreach and communication.
What the Tax Practitioner Liaison cannot do:
- Provide relief or remedy not provided by law;
- Act as the first contact with the department;
- Reverse decisions made by the Administrative Hearing Office; and
- Handle issues with the federal Internal Revenue Service (IRS). If you have an issue IRS, please contact them directly.

Karen has years of experience reviewing and examining financial statements, handling state procurement, handling purchasing and general service contracts. Karen has previously worked with the New Mexico Office of the State Auditor, General Services Department, New Mexico Medical Board, Department of Finance Administration, she has experience in the insurance industry and working for small businesses.
Karen holds a master’s degree in business administration with an accounting concentration from ENMU and has a post-master’s certificate in management with a Taxation concentration from UNM.
