The New Mexico Taxation and Revenue Department has substantially increased efforts to combat identity theft and refund fraud. The enhanced review process could increase the time it takes to process tax refunds and additional documentation will be requested from you to verify your refund claim.
The Department will ask that you provide information from your driver's license or state-issued identification card. If the information is not provided, there could be significant delays in processing of the return. The Department will contact you directly if any additional information is required.
In addition to our increased efforts to combat identity theft and refund fraud, recent data breaches in the federal government and public sector are forcing us to take extra precautions while processing tax refunds. This may add additional time to the review process.
