File My Income Tax

electronic filing and payments
The Taxation and Revenue Department (TRD) encourages all taxpayers to file electronically whenever possible. Electronic filing is safe and secure and provides the fastest service for a refund. Access our website to file online over the internet. There is no charge except for payments made by credit card. You may choose to file electronically through your tax preparer or by using approved software on your personal computer.
If you prefer a paper return, you can obtain a form online or from your local tax office.

Income tax returns should be filed as soon as all necessary information is available, but no later than April 15, unless you are a fiscal-year filer. The due date for fiscal-year taxpayers is the 15th day of the fourth month following the close of the fiscal year. If you file, you will have to pay a penalty. If you pay late, you will have to pay interest and may have to pay penalty. April 30 is the filing deadline for individuals who both file and pay their income tax electronically using our web site, a personal computer, or a tax professional.
You may request an extension of time to file by completing IRS Form 4868, Application for Automatic Extension of Time to File U.S. Individual Income Tax Return or New Mexico Form RPD-41096, Extension of Time to File. An extension of time to file is not an extension to pay, however. If additional tax is due, it must be paid by April 15 to avoid paying interest.
You may pay taxes over the internet by electronic check at no charge. An electronic check authorizes TRD to debit a checking account in the amount and on the date specified. You may choose to pay using your Visa, MasterCard, Discover or American Express card. A convenience fee calculated on the amount of the transaction covers the costs that the companies bill the state when a credit card is used.
