Message from The Secretary
Dear New Mexico Taxpayers,
Thank you again for making the 2012 tax-filing season a success. Largely because of your efforts, we were able to process nearly $260 million in personal income tax refunds in a timely and efficient fashion with very few errors.
Over 90 percent of you listened to our message and filed your returns electronically. This has allowed us to process returns quickly and deposit the money in your bank accounts within two weeks of time or less.
In a four-month period from January through April this year, we processed over 837,000 personal income tax returns, a majority of them filed electronically. We would like to see every New Mexican file their returns electronically next year because E-filing is safe, secure and fast and most importantly it’s easy to use.
E-filing will also save you money on postage and direct deposits into your account will also eliminate any potential for refund checks being lost in the mail or stolen from your mailbox.
While you’re on our website, you can also visit our Motor Vehicle Division website and renew your driver’s license or vehicle registration online without having to visit an MVD office.
The Taxation and Revenue Department collects and distributes over $7 billion in taxes each year from individuals and businesses, representing all types of industries across the state.
We strive to provide the most professional, courteous and accurate customer service. We encourage you to provide us with your feedback on how we can better serve you.
Sincerely,
Demesia Padilla, CPA
Cabinet Secretary
