Message from The Secretary
2011 Tax Season A Huge Success
Dear New Mexico Taxpayers,
I want to thank all New Mexico taxpayers for helping us to help you in processing tax filings and refund checks in the most efficient fashion this tax season. Nearly 90 percent of you filed your personal income tax returns electronically, and that is the highest percentage of electronic returns filed in the State’s history. Electronic filings also allowed us to make about $271 million in refunds in record time as taxpayers saw their refunds checks deposited into their bank accounts within four to six days. We were able to process nearly 750,000 electronic returns in record time with few errors and delays. This enormous success wouldn’t have been possible without your active participation and cooperation. The State also saved over $70,000 in mailing and printing costs because a majority of you have decided to file electronically. We did mail out income tax packets to those who have requested them and will continue to provide that service. However, our hope is that everyone files electronically or download the income tax package from their personal computers. Please remember, E-filing is safe, secure and easy to use.
Sincerely,
Demesia Padilla, CPA
Cabinet Secretary
Dear New Mexico Taxpayers,
It’s that time of the year again when New Mexicans are getting ready to file their 2011 tax returns. I want to encourage everyone to file tax returns online. Not only will you receive your refund check faster (usually within two weeks), we can also deposit your refund check into your personal checking or savings account. eFiling is fast and secure. If speed and convenience isn't enough, you have until April 30th to efile your tax return when you also electronically pay your tax.
Please take advantage of this free and easy service. Help us to help you in processing your tax returns more efficiently with fewer errors and delays.
Sincerely,
Demesia Padilla, CPA
Cabinet Secretary
